VivaTech expo "The world’s rendezvous for startups & leaders" was held from May the 24th to the 26th in Paris. This third edition attracted more than 8,000 start-up businesses from all around the world based on new technologies and innovations. More than a hundred South African start-up businesses responded to the call. An important place was given to Africa this year, while GDP from this continent has reached around 3% in 2017, with even higher prospects for 2018.
The President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, delivered a speech at VivaTech on the May 24th, where he explained his views on how to make technology a positive force for our economy and our society. He also wishes to make France the country that invented the regulation of the new economy and announced the launch of the Digital Africa platform, which will unite startup businesses and ecosystems, it will bring resources to African innovators and label events in Africa. 65 million euros will be allocated to the French Development Agency (AFD) to support African start-up businesses as part of this project.
