Ice Hockey World Championship [fr]
From 5 to 21 May 2017, France and Germany will host the 81st IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris and the Lanxess Arena in Cologne.
For the first time in this history of the sport, two countries will host the Ice Hockey World Championships, following a joint candidacy celebrating over 50 years of Franco-German friendship.
“We are two nations, but a single host” said Henner Ziegfeld, General Secretary of the Organizing Committee. “We have tried to convey this with our slogan, ‘Together for 2017’.”
Gabin Ville, a player in the French U20 team, added: “When two countries commit to working together so intensely, it cannot fail to produce a good result. We are hoping that interest in our sport will keep growing and growing.”
The world’s best 16 ice hockey teams will participate in the competition which is expected to see over 600,000 spectators attend 64 matches over 17 days.
This event is yet another demonstration of Paris’s commitment to sport and the ability of the candidate city for the 2024 Olympic Games to host international sporting events in optimum conditions.
