Ms. Sonia Doña Pérez started her career in the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1990.
She served as technical advisor in the cabinet of Ministre d’Etat of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Roland Dumas, and also in the cabinet of Minister Delegate for Health and Humanitarian Action, Mr. Bernard Kouchner.
She then rejoined the administration of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the strategic affairs and security department.
Following the European elections in 1994, she again joined Mr. Kouchner, Chairman of the Committee of Development and Cooperation, as parliamentary attaché.
In 1997, Ms. Doña Pérez was appointed technical advisor to the cabinet of Prime Minister M. Lionel Jospin.
She served, between 2000 and 2006, in the Directorate of Development, International cooperation and the United Nations.
Abroad, Ms. Doña Pérez served in the Embassy of France in Morocco as chief of staff of the ambassador and was in charge of bilateral relations; she was then appointed head of the press service at the Embassy of France in Spain until 2013, when she returned to Paris. There, she was appointed the project officer to the Director of North Africa and the Middle East at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ms. Doña Pérez started as the Consul General of France in Johannesburg on 14 September 2017. She is responsible for Gauteng, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and Lesotho, as well as Botswana, Namibia and Zambia.
