Biography

Mr. Etienne CHAPON, a career diplomat, has been appointed since September 2021 as the Consul General of France in Johannesburg.
He previously held positions as : Head of the situation department of the crisis and support centre (2019-2021), Deputy Head of the Economic and Budgetary Affairs Department at the United Nations Directorate (2017-2019), First counsellor at the Embassy of France in Abidjan (2014-2017), press advisor at the Embassy of France in Tunis (2009-2014), political advisor at the Embassy of France in Cairo (2006-2009), desk officer at the Middle East and North Africa Directorate (2004-2006) and at the Consular administration Directorate (2001-2004) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He is a graduate of the Political Sciences Institute of Aix-en-Provence and an alumni of the Regional School of Administration of Lyon.
